Waterphone

I ‘ve had a brief introduction to welding with oxy acetylene torches which I greatly enjoy. The cutting and bending of steel was much harder, which left some large gaps to contend when welding the pieces together. I did try to fill in some spaces with the MIG which I don’t like. But it did help give this waterphone its brutalist architecture look. Most waterphones are copper or brass and much smaller. This is literally a heavy metal waterphone.

I made this one out of steel. It will eventually rust from the inside out. I’m wondering how the sound will change. In the meantime I am playing and recording and editing these pieces into compositions.

I am planning to make some more, or possibly wooden instruments, though it will take some time to collect materials.

Special thanks to Sam Nichols for his patience and expertise in the metal shop.
